The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) marks its Silver Jubilee in 2025, celebrating 25 years of inter-parliamentary solidarity, cooperation, and advocacy across the Islamic world. Since its establishment in 1999 in Tehran, the PUIC has become a vital platform for 54 member parliaments and 25 observers, enabling dialogue on shared challenges and advancing political justice, human development, and peace—especially through its consistent support for the Palestinian cause and Muslim minorities worldwide.
The 19th PUIC Conference, hosted by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia from 12–15 May 2025 in Jakarta, carries special meaning as it commemorates the Union’s 25-year journey. With the theme “PUIC Silver Jubilee: Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” the conference highlights the critical role of parliaments in building inclusive, accountable, and values-driven institutions. In an era of global crises, the theme calls on PUIC members—many from the Global South—to invest in institutional strength, ethical leadership, and transparent governance as the foundation for national resilience.
This historic session is not only a reflection on the PUIC’s past achievements but a strategic moment for its future. The Jakarta conference aims to foster cooperation in digital governance, youth and women’s engagement, legislative innovation, and South-South solidarity. Indonesia is honored to host this milestone event and looks forward to welcoming PUIC delegations to shape the next chapter of parliamentary partnership in the Islamic world.
