General Assembly of SEAPAC will be held in Medan on 23-24 October 2013
Vice Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representative as the Chairman of Indonesian GOPAC National Chapter, DR. Pramono Anung Wibowo said that SEAPAC is now currently preparing the program of Parliamentary Information Resources for Anti-Corruption Knowledge that would provide a basic date of corruption prevention acts in Southeast Asian region.
“We will prepare a corruption map in the parliament, the government and the business sector as well as the matters of money laundering. A problem of money laundering has occurred across countries and some countries has given space the occurrence of these cases”, said Pramono at press conference, Thursday, 30th October. General Assembly of SEAPAC will be held in Medan on 23-24 October 2013.
SEAPAC is a non-profit organization that was established as a regional chapter or task force of in Southeast Asia. SEAPAC is aimed to eradicate corruption through the institutions which involving public interest, especially in parliament and government institutions.
The Agenda of General Assembly of SEAPAC will discuss Plan of Action, Strengthening of the SEAPAC Organizational Structure, and purpose the thematic discussions: The Impact of Political Patronage Against Corruption; Gender, Culture and Corruption; Asset Recovery; Mobilising People - Connecting Agents of Change; and Restoring Public Trust. SEAPAC Assembly is also intended to increase cooperation among countries in Southeast Asia in eradicating corruption, sharing experience in those issues and adopted a Plan of Action on corruption eradication in Southeast Asia. The Final result of this Meeting will be concluded in Medan Declaration.
Pramono Anung also explained that corruption and money laundering are transnational crimes which are equivalent to the crime of terrorism and other transnational crimes. Therefore, efforts to combat the crimes should also be built through the cooperation among regional and international level.
The number of money laundering currently estimated at $800 billion to $2000 billion. Therefore, political commitment in regional and international level on this issue is urgently needed.
