President of SEAPAC Praise Thailand National Assembly Regarding the Establishment of National Chapter of GOPAC in Thailand

President of the Southeast Asia Parliamentarians Against Corruption (SEAPAC)/Speaker of Indonesian House of Representatives, Dr. Marzuki Alie congratulates the National Assembly of Thailand on the recent establishment of the National Chapter of Global Organizations of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC). Dr. Marzuki also expressed his pride on the growing number of Southeast Asian nations that establish the National Chapter of GOPAC in their parliament.

Furthermore, Dr. Marzuki Alie also encourages the National Assembly of Thailand to be actively involved in joint efforts in preventing and combating corruption in the region. As is known, the General Assembly of SEAPAC held on 23-24 October 2013 has resulted the Medan Declaration to be the guidelines in combatting corruption in Southeast Asia. The Declaration contains several key points related to the fight against corruption such as:  Parliaments and parliamentarians play significant role to oversee governments’ work to deter corruption;  Parliamentarians are the driving force of their constituents in the campaigns against corruption and they must be committed to their political mandate;  Good performance and accountability of parliament, as well as effective oversight function will restore public trust, and; Parliamentarians shall actively participate to promote the comprehensive and effective anti-corruption strategy which addresses the 5 pillars of UNCAC

Also on this occasion, Dr. Pramono Anung Wibowo, Chairman of Indonesia Chapter of GOPAC/ Member of GOPAC Board of Director, welcome the newly established Thailand National Chapter of GOPAC. Dr. Pramono stated that the establishment of National Chapter of GOPAC showed the Thai Parliament their ongoing commitment in the fight against corruption the more parliament. He also expect more active participation of Thailand National Chapter of GOPAC in SEAPAC. (27-MAR-14)
