Progress on the preparation of PUIC meetings

Today,  37 countries have been registered to attend the 7th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member Countries in Palembang, Indonesia. They are from Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyz, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates. 
 
PUIC meeting in Palembang will also host the 1st Women parliamentarians PUIC conference. As many as 35  women MPs have confirmed to attend the important side event. The success of this first women parliamentarians meetings will encourage the continuity of similar meeting in the future PUIC Meetings.
 
The series of the PUIC Meetings in Palembang will start with the Executive Committee meeting on 24 and 25 January. This meeting will be presided by Hon Mr. Priyo Budi Santoso, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives on behalf of Dr Marzuki Alie, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives. A seasoned politician himself,  Mr. Budi Santoso is expected to give his guidance on various issues and dynamics relating that should be addressed by the Executive Committee. Another important item that will be deliberated by the Executive Committee is Islamic parliamentary declaration. This declaration is proposed to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Arab Israeli situation and to realize rapprochement between the Islamic civilization and the other civilizations.
