the 1st Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians

The Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians was held on Friday, January 27th 2012, from 13.00 to 17.20 at Aryaduta Hotel, Palembang, South Sumatera Province, Indonesia. The Conference opened by H.E. the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Marzuki Alie and Chaired by Hon. Dr. Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, M.Si. as the President of the Conference of Women Parliamentarians of the PUIC.
The Conference has elected the following Members of the Bureau: Vice President from the Arab Group: Hon. Ms. Khadija Zoumi from the Moroccan Parliamen; Vice President from the African Group: Hon. Ms. Mansoura Hamid Nouri from the Chad Parliament.
The Conference had a productive and constructive deliberation which delivered by each Member Participants. Several agenda items have been discussed, including: Participation of Muslim Women; Gender Equality; Education for Girl Child; Protecting the Rights of the Palestinian Women and Reducing the Suffering of the Children of Palestine, and so forth.
It has also been decided that the 2nd Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians will be held in Sudan during the next Session of PUIC Conference. The Preliminary Meeting of the Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians will be held in Morocco.
The Conference has proposed a Declaration of Muslim Women Parliamentarians of the PUIC. The Declaration stated several important issues. Among others, is to amend the PUIC Statute to recognize the Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians as an annual meeting on the sideline of the PUIC Conference.
