Press Release on President of AIPA Visit

· President of AIPA/ Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Marzuki Alie led a delegation to visit Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia on 4-8 September 2012. During the visit, President of AIPA will meet the Speakers and Head of Government of each countries to raise mutual understanding and better vision among AIPA Member States and Heads of Government.
· President of AIPA have a strong commitment to strengthen the cooperation between AIPA Members, including the mutual cooperation between AIPA Members and Dialogue Partners. He regards AIPA strategic position in ASEAN could actively take part to realize ASEAN as “a people centered community”. This vision needs participation not only from government of ASEAN Members but also from ASEAN parliaments to create intensive communication, interaction and cooperation between all parties in ASEAN Community
· This visit will also discuss the agenda topics agreed in the Executive Committee Meeting on July 2012 in Jogjakarta, to propose in the 33rd General Assembly of AIPA in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The agenda topics will be discuss the issues of: South China Sea, territorial dispute between ASEAN Member Countries, the acceleration of ASEAN Integration through the Initiative for ASEAN Integration, and the efforts to improve trade and tourism cooperation between ASEAN Members as well as discussion on bilateral cooperation.
· This working visit is to continue previous visit to Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia and India (upon the invitation of India as the observer of AIPA)
