Vice Chairperson of the House Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) Putu Supadma Rudana stated that the 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly will be a momentum for Bali to revive, especially for tourism sector. The parliamentary summit will be held from 22 to 24 March 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali.
“This event can be the initial momentum for Indonesia, especially for Bali Province, to affirm that it is ready to reopen. The point is that we have continued to ensure that the pandemic is under control. It is good momentum for us,” Rudana released his press statement to Parlementaria at Nusantara III Building, Senayan, Parliamentary Complex on Thursday (10/3/2022).
Furthermore, The Bali electoral district legislator said that this momentum reaffirmed Indonesia's success in implementing strict health protocols and optimizing vaccinations rollout, especially in Bali Province. "Secondly, we want to show the world that we are implementing strict health protocols and optimizing vaccinations rollout, from half-dose, full-dose, to booster vaccinations. It confirms that Bali is ready to reopen for tourists," Rudana asserted.
Rudana explained that more than 100 international delegates would attend the 144th IPU Summit. The series of events is projected to be the most significant international event held at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. "In my opinion, it is quite remarkable for Indonesia to host the IPU Assembly with a short preparation time and the challenges due to the pandemic. This situation shows the world that Indonesia is ready to host the world's biggest parliamentary event," said the Democrat Party politician.
Talking on the readiness of the hospitality industry at the Island of Gods, Rudana said that both businesses and the people in Bali have prepared themselves in anticipation of this moment. "The Balinese people have said they have been ready from the start. They have made it clear from the get go that they are ready to host the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, the first big event in Bali during the pandemic. It is a good momentum for all," said the Member of the House Commission VI on industry, trade, and investment.
As a leading tourist destination, Bali is one of the regions most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. International travel restrictions are the reason for the decline in the number of foreign tourists, which directly impact the region's economy. (uc,ts/sf)
