The Organizational Committee of the 'ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly' (AIPA) agreed on 'Young Parliamentarians' as representatives of young parliamentarians to be the Special Committee for Young Parliamentarians, at the 'Standing Committee' meeting in the series of the 44th AIPA General Assembly in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/ 8/2023).

Vice Chairperson of the House Committee Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) Putu Supadma Rudana, who chaired the Organizational Committee meeting, said that the Organizational Committee had decided on a provision on the formation of the new committee, in which a delegate representative under the age of 45  was selected as a member of the Special Committee of the AIPA Youth Parliament.

"We also adopted a scheme or mechanism that highlights the importance of YAIPA. In the past, this significant scheme or mechanism that we have for Young Parliamentarians might just be a side event, but now it has become a special committee where Young Parliamentarians are actively involved," said Rudana to Parlementaria.

This scheme, added the Democrat Party politician, accommodates the fact that not all parliamentarians in the ASEAN region have many young people in them. "It should be in accordance with their relevant conditions. Not ASEAN member parliaments have many young people in them, but the general provision is that one of the three participating delegates shall be under the age of 45. (bia/aha/agl)
